Tower Gateway DLR station has reopened following upgrade work to enable it to accommodate three carriage trains in the future.
A new horseshoe-shaped platform is now in place, protected from the wind and rain by full length canopies and back screens. This new platform layout will ease congestion, making boarding and alighting easier. The original station escalators have been replaced with new energy efficient models, which run at a reduced speed when no passengers are on them, saving up to 40 per cent more energy than a standard escalator. Seats have been added to the departure platform.
Trains run at least every ten minutes to Beckton, with an average journey time of 14 minutes to Canning Town and 12 minutes to Canary Wharf (change at Shadwell).
The DLR Information Centre has also reopened and is staffed by a Customer Service Host 07.00–15.00hrs Monday to Friday and 10.00–18.00hrs at weekends. The station newsagent is available for Oyster cards.
